During December of 2012, District 1's Community Policing Team held their 5th Annual Aloha No Na Kupuna (Love For Our Elderly) Senior Safety Conference. The main focus of this event was emergency preparedness, injury prevention, and health and wellness through tai chi. A week later, a number of lucky seniors were treated to Kupuna Shop with a Cop at Walgreens in Kalihi. This provided a special opportunity for HPD officers to meet with senior citizens in their district, as they go shopping for daily essentials and specialty items that they need. Later, the seniors got to take pictures with Santa Claus to cap off a great day of shopping. Don’t worry; it’s since gone dormant, which means you can climb to the rim and take in a truly brilliant view of the coast. Head back down to the water and go paddleboarding or swimming; “Honolulu” means “sheltered bay,” and the beachfront here lives up to its name: It’s calm and sheltered y...

Honolulu, the capital of the Hawaiian Islands has developed into a lively city. In the heart of the city there’s a statue in honour of King Kamehama The Third who in 1840 moved his government residence from the island of Maui to Honolulu on Oahu, thus unifying the island kingdom. In later years the Victorian Iolani Palace became the new residence of those who ruled Hawaii. Hawaii wouldn’t be Hawaii if it were not for its world famous surfers when during the winter season the northern part of Oahu with its Waimea Bay, Banzai Pipeline and Sunset Beach is extremely popular with surfers. This lecture was part of a panel on Arab Philosophy she organized and shared with Dr. Yomna El-Kholy (Cairo University, Egypt) and Dr. Ridha A. Chennoufi (University of Tunis, Tunisia) at the 11th East-West Philosophers’ Conference (Honolulu, HI, May 24-31, 2016).
